Terms of Service
Last updated: 30 July 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Sabyl Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales ("Sabyl", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using sabyl.com or our apps (the "Service"), you agree to them.
1. What Sabyl is — and what it is not
Sabyl is software for families to send, save, and manage money together. Understanding how it works matters, so here it is plainly:
- Sabyl Ltd is not a bank and not a payment institution. We build and operate the application. We never hold, control, or have access to your money.
- Regulated money services are provided by Bridge, a company of the Stripe group, authorised in the European Union as our provider of record for currency exchange, custody during conversion, bank transfers, and identity verification. When you use money features, you also accept the terms of service published by Bridge at bridge.xyz/legal, which we present to you during setup.
- Your money lives in a wallet that only you control. Your Sabyl balance is held as EURC — a euro-backed digital token issued by Circle — in a blockchain wallet created for you. The keys to that wallet are yours. Sabyl cannot move your funds; every transfer, deposit into a pot, or withdrawal happens only when you approve it in the app.
Your balance is not a bank deposit. It is not covered by the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme or any EU deposit guarantee scheme. EURC is fully reserved and issued by Circle under EU e-money regulation (MiCA); its stability depends on Circle, not on Sabyl.
2. Who can use Sabyl
You must be at least 18. Anyone 18 or over may create an account, join pots, and receive money. Adding money from a bank and withdrawing to a bank require identity verification with Bridge and are currently available only to residents of the European Economic Area. We may expand or restrict availability as regulation allows.
3. Your account and security
You sign in with your email address. Keep access to that email secure — it is the door to your account. Your wallet keys are managed for you through Privy, our key-infrastructure provider, and remain under your control; they are exportable, meaning your funds are never locked into Sabyl. You are responsible for actions taken through your authenticated session. Tell us immediately at support@sabyl.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Adding and withdrawing money
When verified, you receive personal account details (IBAN) issued through Bridge. Transfers you send there are converted to EURC and delivered to your wallet.
Transfers must come from a bank account in your own name. Payments from accounts in other names are rejected by the compliance screening of Bridge and refunded to the sender. This is a regulatory requirement, not a Sabyl choice — to fund the Sabyl of a family member, send money to your own balance first, then send it to them inside Sabyl.
Withdrawals convert your EURC back to euros and are paid to a bank account registered in your name. If a withdrawal fails, the funds return automatically to your own wallet — never to us.
5. Fees
Our current fees are always published on the fees page, which is the authoritative schedule. As of this version: 1% when money arrives from your bank, 0.75% when money leaves to your bank; sending and pot activity inside Sabyl carry no Sabyl fee beyond the network costs we sponsor. Fees are collected within the payment flow of our provider, never taken from money in transit between users.
If we increase a fee, we will email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Changes are never retroactive: every transaction is charged at the rate shown when you make it. If you do not accept an increase, you may withdraw your funds at the existing rates before it applies.
6. Pots
Pots are shared spaces governed by transparent rules that run on a public blockchain — meaning the rules are enforced automatically and equally for everyone, including us:
- The owner creates the pot and manages members. Admins may help manage. Members hold allocations — their share of the pot.
- Owners and admins can set spending limits and approval thresholds; amounts above a threshold require sign-off from other members before they move.
- A member may exit a pot; exits release their allocation after a security delay of 7 days.
- Recovery: a pot owner may nominate a trusted member as backup. If the owner becomes unavailable, the nominated member can claim ownership; the claim takes effect only after 30 days, during which the owner is notified and can cancel it, and even after transfer the prior owner has a 7-day window to reclaim. This process is automatic and cannot be accelerated by Sabyl or anyone else.
- Closing a pot requires it to be fully settled — every allocation and reservation released.
7. Blockchain transactions are final
Transfers on the blockchain are irreversible by design. If you send money to the wrong recipient, neither you nor Sabyl can undo it. Check usernames and amounts before confirming. We sponsor the network costs of your transactions; we may reasonably limit sponsored activity to prevent abuse.
8. What you may not do
You may not use Sabyl for anything unlawful — including money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion, fraud, or transactions connected to prohibited goods; to harm, deceive, or impersonate others; to interfere with the operation or security of the Service; or to create accounts with false identity information. We may suspend or restrict accounts that we reasonably believe breach these rules, and we cooperate with lawful requests from authorities. Because your wallet is yours, restriction of the app does not confiscate your funds — your keys remain exportable.
9. Availability
Sabyl is a young service and is provided "as is". We work hard on reliability but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and features may change as we grow. The blockchain and our providers (Bridge, Privy, Circle) are systems we depend on but do not control.
10. Intellectual property
The Service — its software, design, name, and content — belongs to Sabyl Ltd. You receive a personal, non-transferable right to use it. You keep ownership of the content you provide (names, descriptions, avatars) and grant us the licence needed to display it within the Service.
11. Ending things
You may stop using Sabyl at any time: withdraw your balance, or export your keys — the money is yours either way. We may close or suspend accounts for breach of these terms, legal requirement, or extended inactivity, with notice where lawful. Sections that by nature should survive (fees owed, liability, governing law) survive termination.
12. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (including for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence). Otherwise, and to the maximum extent permitted by law: we are not liable for losses caused by the blockchain itself, by our third-party providers, by your errors in addressing transactions, or by events outside our reasonable control; we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses; and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of 100 GBP or the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For meaningful changes we will give you at least 30 days notice by email; continued use after that date is acceptance. The current version always lives at sabyl.com/terms.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes belong to the courts of England and Wales — though if you are a consumer residing in the EU, you keep any protection and forum rights your local law grants you. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stand.
